In China, doctors removed a huge ball of hair weighing two kilograms from the stomach of a 15-year-old schoolgirl, reports South China Morning Post.

The patient was brought to the hospital with complaints of severe abdominal pain, loss of appetite, and dizziness. With a height of 1.6 m, the schoolgirl weighed only 35 kg - doctors diagnosed severe anemia.

The schoolgirl's mother said that her daughter had been pulling out and eating her own hair for six years - this mental disorder is known as trichophagia. Examination showed that the hair, together with food residues, had formed a dense ball that completely filled the stomach and interfered with the functioning of internal organs.

Eventually, surgeons performed an operation: it turned out that the Chinese girl's stomach had swollen to twice its normal size. Doctors successfully removed the ball of hair, and after just five days, the patient was able to eat on her own again.

Specialists remind that trichophagia requires comprehensive treatment - diet, psychiatric help, and medication.
