Vatican sources have presented the first photographs of Pope Francis after his death.

In the images, the Holy Father is captured in an open coffin, surrounded by religious artifacts.

The pontiff's death occurred on April 21. As previously reported, the cause of the tragedy was a stroke. On the evening of the same day, the Vatican officially confirmed that the cause of death was a massive brain stroke.
