In Georgia, a large sum of money was seized from the homes of the former prime minister and several high-ranking officials.
As reported by the Georgian bureau of Report, the country's prosecutor's office announced at a briefing that during searches at the homes of former Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, ex-head of the State Security Service Grigol Liluashvili, former Prosecutor General Otar Partskhaladze, and persons connected to them, 7,002,200 US dollars and 136,000 lari in cash were discovered and seized.
Additionally, 198 pieces of jewelry and watches, valuable paintings, thousands of pages of documents, 50 mobile phones, and 119 electronic devices were confiscated.
The large-scale operation took place on October 17 from 10:00 AM in Tbilisi, as well as in Dedoplistskaro, Vani, Chokhatauri, and Borjomi. In total, searches were conducted at 24 addresses and involved several private individuals.
About 230 employees of the General Prosecutor's Office and the State Security Service of Georgia participated in the operation.
Investigative authorities are determining the origin of the seized funds and property, as well as conducting technical analysis of the documents and electronic devices. The results of the investigation will be made public in the coming days.
