Former Apple employee had to change his last name due to similarity with Samsung
In 2012, a business card of Apple Store employee Sam Sung went viral on the internet, as his name and surname sounded similar to Samsung. In a new interview with Business Insider, he talked about Apple's reaction and why he decided to change his surname.
When Sam's business card spread across the internet, Apple reacted quickly. They didn't fire him, but prohibited him from communicating with customers, giving out business cards, and asked colleagues not to say his name in front of customers.
In 2013, Sam left Apple, and in 2014, he put his business card up for a charity auction, raising $2500 for Children's Wish foundation.
After leaving Apple, he changed his surname to Struan, so that he wouldn't be perceived as an internet meme and to prevent it from interfering with his future work.
