Borrell: All European Union aid to Ukraine is frozen

As of today, all aid to Ukraine from the European Union is effectively frozen.

This was stated by former head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell in an interview with the EUObserver portal.

According to him, aid to Kyiv has not been provided since his departure from office. Borrell noted that now any support must be provided on a bilateral basis.

"After my departure [from office], military aid to Ukraine from the EU has not been provided. 6.6 billion euros in the European Peace Fund remain blocked due to Hungary. This has become the end of this instrument. Now everything must be done on a bilateral basis," said the former head of EU diplomacy.

Borrell drew attention to the fact that the process of agreeing on new sanctions against Russia has also reached a deadlock. He noted that if Hungary refuses to extend the restrictions, the European Union will not be able to make such a decision without it.

Earlier, former US ambassador to the EU Anthony Gardner stated that US President Donald Trump deliberately "fragmented" the European Union for his own benefit. In his opinion, the politician "ruthlessly" used leverage on the union to impose a trade deal beneficial to Washington.
