Al-Sharaa named the date of the next presidential elections in Syria
Presidential elections in Syria will be held in four years based on a new constitution.
As reported by Oxu.Az with reference to TASS, this was announced by the president of the Arab republic for the transition period, Ahmed al-Sharaa, speaking at the Doha Forum.
"We held a comprehensive national dialogue conference, which resulted in a temporary constitutional declaration. This declaration gave the president the authority to remain in power for five years, during which numerous laws will be adopted and a constitution will be developed that will become the fundamental principle for the system of state governance. In four years, we will certainly hold elections," said al-Sharaa, emphasizing that "this process requires more time due to the nature and complexity of the transition period."
He noted that the transitional government organized parliamentary elections "despite the difficult circumstances in which the country found itself," emphasizing that this process took place "in accordance with the current situation" in the absence of a full-fledged infrastructure.
On March 13, al-Sharaa signed a constitutional declaration, which is the legal foundation of Syria for a five-year transition period. According to the document, all executive power is concentrated in the hands of the head of state. The president has the right to appoint members of the Constitutional Court and declare a state of emergency.
