A new magnetic storm is approaching Earth

A class G2.7 magnetic storm with a 96% probability will reach Earth on Tuesday, December 9, causing a prolonged disturbance of the magnetosphere.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, throughout the day on December 9, the Earth's magnetic field will be in a state of storm. The main peak is expected from 10:00 to 19:00 Baku time.

On November 15, scientists recorded the second consecutive "planetary scale" magnetic storm in 20 years. Before this, maximum level G5 storms had not been observed for almost two decades. The first such storm was registered in May 2024, and on November 12, 2025, Earth again encountered an extremely strong disturbance of level G5 - the index reached 8.67 units.
