Dark circles under the eyes, which are usually associated with lack of sleep, can be a sign of serious health problems. This was reported by surgeon and lecturer at the State University of Education Alexander Umnov in an interview with Lenta.ru.

According to him, in some cases, bruises under the eyes appear due to injuries to the skull, upper jaw, or eye socket. But they can also be a consequence of liver or cardiovascular system disorders.

"In liver diseases, vascular permeability is disrupted, which can cause blood to seep into tissues," Umnov explained. "This is associated with a deficiency of proteins that regulate oncotic pressure, which leads to bleeding."
