# Unobvious Cause of Sudden Facial Asymmetry Revealed
Sudden facial asymmetry may be related not to cosmetic but to dental problems, Russian specialists warn. This was stated by Russian periodontist surgeon Olesya Izgareva.
As reported by BAKU.WS citing "Lenta.ru", according to the expert, facial asymmetry itself is not a separate disease, but more often appears as a consequence of other disorders in the body. She named problems with teeth and chewing load as one of the common causes.
The specialist explained that the habit of chewing food predominantly on one side, as well as the absence of one or more teeth, can over time lead to jaw displacement. This, in turn, affects appearance and causes a noticeable difference in facial proportions.
In addition, malocclusion or reduction in bite height can also trigger changes. If one side of the jaw constantly experiences greater load, the muscles and bone structures on that side develop more actively. As a result, visual asymmetry forms.
Experts note that when such changes appear, it is important to promptly consult a dentist, since the problem may progress without treatment.
