One in four deaths among young people is associated with sudden cardiac arrest - cardiologist Evgenia Bogaevskaya told the newspaper "Vechernyaya Moskva" in an interview.
According to the specialist, these alarming data were presented at the latest scientific congress of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Men around the age of 23 proved to be particularly vulnerable. Most of them did not experience any symptoms before the fatal attack. Only a third of the victims had previously consulted doctors with complaints of seizures, fainting, rapid heartbeat, nausea, or signs of infection.
As Bogaevskaya emphasized, determining the exact cause of sudden cardiac arrest is often extremely difficult. Among the possible risk factors are hereditary predisposition, chronic diseases, harmful habits, as well as excess weight.
The doctor paid special attention to professional athletes. People who undergo regular intense physical exertion may develop hidden cardiological pathologies that remain unnoticed until a tragic incident.
As prevention, Bogaevskaya recommends maintaining a healthy lifestyle, moderate physical activity, and regular medical examinations.
