Doctor Miguel Assal warned that people who don't let go of their smartphones risk ending up on the operating table. He told this to the publication La Razon.
As Assal explained, excessive use of gadgets can lead to carpal tunnel syndrome, the main manifestation of which is pain in the hand, wrist, or fingers. Treatment involves taking certain medications, but severe cases require surgical intervention, he explained.
Among other negative consequences of smartphones, the specialist highlighted pain in the neck and ulnar nerve, eye strain, anxiety disorder, and insomnia. According to the doctor, statistics show that the average gadget usage worldwide is more than 6.5 hours per day. He called this number very high.
