Well-known British medical expert Zoe Williams has issued a warning about potentially serious causes of frequent nighttime urination. In the popular publication The Sun, her response to a patient suffering from this problem was published.

A 48-year-old man contacted the editorial office with a concerning story: every night he is forced to wake up at least twice to visit the bathroom. According to the reader, this problem has plagued him since he was 20 years old. Initially, it caused discomfort in public places - clubs and theaters, where urges would occur at the most inappropriate moments. Over the years, the situation has only worsened - now the man sometimes wakes up in a wet bed. Notably, the patient rarely experiences thirst, hardly drinks water, but has a fondness for Coca-Cola.

In her response, Dr. Williams emphasized the need for a comprehensive medical examination. "The patient should have blood tests and undergo an ultrasound to rule out kidney and urinary tract diseases," the specialist recommends. Among the possible causes of frequent night awakenings, the expert highlighted an overactive bladder, weakness of the pelvic floor muscles, and an enlarged prostate gland.

Without waiting for the examination results, the British general practitioner suggested two immediate steps. First, completely eliminate cola consumption, as carbonated drinks and the caffeine they contain have an irritating effect on the bladder. Second, begin regular exercises to strengthen the pelvic floor muscles, performing them three times a day.
