Iranian wrestler first went to Yerevan, and then traveled to Baku.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this is according to the Armenian portal Sportball24.

"One of the most promising wrestlers on the planet, Amirreza Masoumi, was spotted during training in Baku. Masoumi first posted photos from Yerevan on social media, and then from Baku. In addition, a photo of the Iranian training in the Azerbaijan national team camp has spread on the internet. This shows that negotiations between the Asian world champion and the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation have concluded positively.

Earlier, the head of the Iranian Wrestling Federation criticized Masoumi and suspended him from the national team. Despite the fact that the wrestler first contacted the Armenian Wrestling Federation, it is quite possible that Azerbaijan will become Masoumi's new sporting homeland," the information states.

Responding to Oxu.Az's inquiry, the press secretary of the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation, Sarkhan Musayev, stated that any athlete has the right to come to our country and participate in training.

"Good conditions have been created in Azerbaijan for wrestlers' training. Titled and star athletes from many countries around the world come here to train. This is a normal process. Amirreza Masoumi is training here for the same reason. As for the opinions voiced by Armenian media, they are completely unfounded. Currently, the news that the wrestler is facing a choice between Yerevan and Baku does not correspond to reality. Inviting the wrestler to our national team is not even a topic for discussion. If there is something official on this issue, the Azerbaijan Wrestling Federation will make a statement to the public," said S. Musayev.

It should be noted that Amirreza Masoumi has six medals from world championships in the U-17, U-20, and U-23 age categories. He is also the 2025 Asian champion and the winner of the ranking tournament in Zagreb (2025).
