Abramovich plans to buy shares of Galatasaray
Sport 17

Former owner of the English football club "Chelsea" Roman Abramovich intends to acquire a controlling stake in the Turkish club "Galatasaray".

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to "Sovetsky Sport", the Russian businessman has already purchased a mansion on the shore of the Bosphorus and is preparing to move to Istanbul.

According to current legislation, the public joint-stock company "Galatasaray" is controlled by a foundation of the same name, not a private company. Thus, the club's ownership structure is based on membership, not corporate investments. This means that its assets cannot be sold to private individuals or external investors unless the foundation itself makes such a decision. Therefore, for participation, Abramovich will most likely have to use indirect forms of cooperation - sponsorship, infrastructure projects, or joint ventures with the club's commercial subsidiaries, rather than direct investments in the share capital.

Abramovich became the owner of Chelsea in 2003. During his leadership, the club became the champion of England five times, won the FA Cup five times, the English League Cup three times, the English Super Cup twice, as well as the Champions League and the Europa League twice each. In 2021, Chelsea won the UEFA Super Cup and won the Club World Cup.

"Galatasaray" is a 25-time champion of Turkey and 19-time winner of the country's Cup. In 2000, the club won the UEFA Cup and UEFA Super Cup.
