33 years ago, on the morning of April 30, 1991, Operation "Ring" ("Chaikend Operation") began, aimed at disarming illegal Armenian armed formations, primarily in the Khanlar and Geranboi districts of Azerbaijan, as well as in the territory of the then NKAO. As a result of the operation, Chaikend, Garabulag, and 23 other settlements were liberated from Armenian armed gangs. During the operation, one of the leaders of the Armenian militants, Tatul Krpeyan, was eliminated.

The Azerbaijani authorities provided trucks and even helicopters to those peaceful Armenians who wanted to leave the special operation zone.

During Operation "Ring," Samvel Babayan, already known for his bloody crimes against the Azerbaijani population of Karabakh, was detained. Babayan was taken to Baku, where he spent over 6 months in prison. However, in December 1991, he was released as a result of a prisoner exchange.

The Republic's prosecutor Ismet Gaibov actively participated in the capture of criminals. He would tragically die a few months later as a result of the disaster in the skies over Garakend.
