The population of Azerbaijan has exceeded 10 million people

The country's population has increased by 11,338 people or 0.1 percent since the beginning of the year, reaching 10 million 236 thousand 227 people as of May 1, 2025.

According to the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, in accordance with the "I State Program for the Great Return to the territories of the Republic of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation," approved by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No. 3587 dated November 16, 2022, as of 06/01/2025, 3,721 families consisting of 14,843 people have returned to the restored settlements in the liberated territories.

According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population, as of the specified date, the number of persons temporarily residing in the liberated territories in connection with restoration and construction work and other professional activities, and their family members, amounted to 32,216 people. Taking into account 1,150 students studying at Karabakh University in the city of Khankendi, the total population established in the liberated territories was 48,209 people.

54.4 percent of the country's population are urban residents, 45.6 percent are rural residents, 49.8 percent are men, and 50.2 percent are women.
