Unwashed kitchen hood can pose a serious health hazard, warned doctor Andrey Kondrakhin in an interview with "Gazeta.Ru".

According to him, fat accumulates on the hood's surface over time, which attracts insects and can transmit intestinal infections. Additionally, mold can develop on the hood, and dust and dirt can settle, mixing with the grease and creating a favorable environment for pathogens.

Kondrakhin noted that mold often causes allergies, including bronchial asthma and chronic bronchitis. He also reminded that the hood not only draws in air but partially blows it back out. This increases the risk of bacteria, such as E. coli or listeria, getting onto food, which can lead to food poisoning.

The doctor urged regular cleaning of the hood using manufacturer-recommended products. Even if the hood is not used, it needs to be washed, and at least once a month, a thorough cleaning should be conducted.
