An incident occurred in the Binagadi district of Baku, which became the culmination of a complex relationship between a 19-year-old Azerbaijani Jalal and a Turkish citizen Sinan (names are conditional - ed.).

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to teleqraf.com, the young men met in an online game about six years ago. Their communication evolved into a personal meeting when Jalal went to Turkey to pursue higher education. However, the relationship took an unexpected turn when Jalal discovered that his new friend had a romantic interest in him.

According to Jalal's testimony, about a week after arriving in Turkey, he learned about Sinan's homosexual orientation and tried to distance himself from him.

"He started threatening me. For this reason, I had to drop out of school and return to my homeland from Turkey. Sinan is a hacker, he called me from different mobile numbers, saying that he would torment my family," the defendant stated in court.

Jalal's father claimed in his testimony that Sinan once "kidnapped" his son, and for two months the family received no news about him.

"I went to the police. The police said they couldn't control Jalal since he was already an adult. Then I contacted the security agencies, and they provided us with assistance," the father told the court.

The version of events presented by Sinan, who was recognized as the victim in the case, differs significantly. According to him, he came to Baku in 2024, and he and Jalal agreed to rent a house in Ganja due to lower housing prices. "I came to Baku, arranged with Jalal to walk around the city and relax here," the victim explained.

The fateful meeting took place in the Balajary settlement. According to Sinan, on the day of the incident, he and Jalal drank beer together, after which the young man was supposed to escort him to the hotel. At this moment, Jalal's father approached them, who categorically objected to his son staying with a foreigner.

"I told Jalal's father that I was not causing his son any harm and that he wanted to stay with me of his own free will. Then Jalal got angry, pulled a knife out of his pocket and attacked me. I tried to protect myself by covering with my hands, resulting in knife wounds to my wrist and forearm," Sinan said.

The investigative body charged Jalal under Article 126.1 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. The young man did not plead guilty.

The Baku Court for Serious Crimes, having considered all the circumstances of the case, decided to apply Article 70 (conditional sentence) of the Criminal Code to Jalal. The young man was given a suspended sentence of 3 years with a probationary period of 2 years.
