Azerbaijan and Italy expand cooperation in air transport

A meeting was held between the president of CJSC Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) Samir Rzayev and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Azerbaijan Luca Di Gianfrancesco.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the AZAL press service, during the meeting, issues of strengthening cooperation between the two countries in the field of air transport were discussed, and new opportunities for interaction were evaluated. Both sides emphasized that the expansion of air connections makes a significant contribution to the development of economic, tourist, and cultural ties between Azerbaijan and Italy.

Samir Rzayev noted that since April 1, AZAL has increased the frequency of flights on the Baku - Milan - Baku route to six times a week, and from May 13, flights will be operated daily.

Ambassador Di Gianfrancesco emphasized the importance of developing air connections between the two countries, focusing on the upcoming 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Italy.

It should be noted that currently AZAL operates regular flights on the Baku - Milan - Baku route. In 2024, 252 flights (round trip) were operated on this route, and the number of passengers carried was 67,708 people. In January-March 2025 alone, 67 flights were operated, and the total number of passengers carried was 15,236 people.

The parties also discussed prospects for opening new routes, promoting joint initiatives, and opportunities for regional integration.
