The President of Mauritius thanked Ilham Aliyev for the invitation to WUF13
President of Mauritius Dharambeer Gokhool highly praised Azerbaijan's initiatives in the field of sustainable urban development and thanked President Ilham Aliyev for the invitation to WUF13 in Baku.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, he stated this during his speech at the Leaders Summit, which is being held in Baku for the first time in the history of the World Urban Forum (WUF).
The President of Mauritius noted that today approximately 3 billion people worldwide continue to live in inadequate housing conditions, and nearly 1 billion live in slums.
"This is an unprecedented humanitarian problem. The forum in which we are participating is the best opportunity for exchanging experiences and disseminating best practices," Dharambeer Gokhool emphasized.
According to him, the government of Mauritius has approved a national development strategy through 2040, within which special importance is given to planning issues.
"Our goal is to ensure the effective use of limited land resources and social justice in full compliance with the New Urban Agenda. We must provide decent and affordable housing for low- and middle-income families," the president stated.
