Prime Minister Ali Asadov participated in the meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the CIS in Dushanbe

On June 5, a meeting of the Council of Heads of Government of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) was held in Dushanbe, the capital of the Republic of Tajikistan.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to information from the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov participated in the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, A. Asadov focused on agenda items concerning economic, legal and humanitarian spheres, as well as budget and personnel issues related to the activities of the Commonwealth.
Calling humanitarian cooperation one of the key areas of interaction within the CIS, the Prime Minister noted the importance of developing the volunteer movement and strengthening international cooperation in the field of volunteering. "As you know, in December last year, a Forum of Volunteer Movements was successfully held in Baku, in which youth from the Commonwealth countries actively participated, and numerous panel sessions and round tables were organized," added A. Asadov.
The attention of the meeting participants was also drawn to significant cultural and sporting events that will take place in 2025 within the framework of the CIS.
It was emphasized that from September 28 to October 8 of this year, the III Games of the CIS countries will be held in Ganja and other cities of Azerbaijan, covering 23 sports. "The official website of the games has already been launched, where you can learn about the news on the preparation process, the schedule of competitions and sports venues," said the Prime Minister.
A. Asadov also noted that in connection with the announcement of the city of Lachin as the cultural capital of the Commonwealth in 2025, an Action Plan was approved, according to which conferences, concerts, exhibitions, theater and film festivals, as well as competitions and media tours are planned.
Touching upon the events marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory over fascism, the Prime Minister emphasized that the Azerbaijani people made a significant contribution to the common cause of Victory both on the battlefields and in the rear.
A. Asadov also recalled that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the further expansion of trade and economic ties with the CIS member states. "In this regard, it is gratifying to note the maintenance of positive dynamics in Azerbaijan's trade turnover with the CIS countries, which grew by 7% in 2024. Based on the results of the first 4 months of this year, we record an increase of 43%," he stated.
Informing the meeting participants about the steps taken by Azerbaijan to improve transport infrastructure, the Prime Minister reported that special attention is paid to the digitalization of customs and transit operations. Azerbaijan, being one of the most important transport and logistics centers of Eurasia, plays a significant role in the development of the East-West and North-South transport corridors.
Speaking about the large-scale projects in the field of renewable energy sources being successfully implemented in Azerbaijan, A. Asadov noted that the signed contracts for solar and wind power plants will provide the country with an additional 6 gigawatts of energy by 2030. "Also, through our own investments, we are increasing the hydropower potential in the East Zangezur and Karabakh regions of the Republic of Azerbaijan by building and commissioning hydroelectric power stations of various capacities. As a result of the work being carried out, it is planned to double the potential for energy production from renewable sources over the next five years," he added.
Summing up, the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan expressed hope for continued close cooperation at the intergovernmental level within the CIS framework, which has a positive impact on the expansion of bilateral and multilateral cooperation between member states.
Following the meeting, the heads of government of the CIS member states signed a number of documents.
