Diplomatic dialogue yielded results: a step toward justice in the AZAL plane crash case
Sometimes individual events go beyond the ordinary news agenda and evolve into prolonged processes in which answers are formed gradually. The plane crash that occurred on December 25, 2024, became precisely such a case.
The tragedy near Aktau was considered not only as an aviation incident but also as an event requiring a comprehensive and thorough investigation. From the very first days after the crash of the aircraft belonging to AZAL (Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC), the situation was taken under control and remained in the spotlight.
The inquiry was not limited to technical aspects but moved into the diplomatic realm, becoming part of a complex and sensitive dialogue between the parties. The turning point in this process was the meeting that took place in October 2025 in Dushanbe.
As MP Elchin Mirzabeyli noted in a comment to Baku TV, following the incident in Russian airspace, Azerbaijan adopted a principled and unwavering position. According to him, at the meeting between the presidents of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation in Dushanbe, questions of determining responsibility and paying compensation were raised.
The parliamentarian emphasized that the results achieved to date, including the payment of compensation, are significant in terms of establishing legal responsibility. Furthermore, this demonstrates the protection of the rights of Azerbaijani citizens and the implementation of the principles of justice.
