Azerbaijan and Iran discussed prospects for the implementation of joint infrastructure projects

During the visit of the delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Shahin Mustafayev to Iran, a meeting of the co-chairs of the Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation between the two countries was held.

This was reported by the Cabinet of Ministers.

During the meeting, the current state of relations in the economic-trade, transport-communication, and humanitarian spheres, as well as other issues of mutual interest and prospects for the development of cooperation were discussed.

Discussions were held on the status of implementation of the agreements reached following the 17th session of the State Commission held in Baku in February this year, and the activities envisaged in the signed Memorandum of Understanding.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the active political dialogue and friendly relations between Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Masoud Pezeshkian have given significant impetus to the development of ties between the two countries.

The meeting between the leaders held in Bishkek was particularly highlighted.

Shahin Mustafayev, reviewing the work carried out during the past period, emphasized the importance of accelerating the implementation process of the agreed projects and continuing coordinated activities between the relevant structures.

During the conversation, one of the main topics of discussion was the development of the "North–South" International Transport Corridor in the sphere of transport and transit, as well as increasing its throughput capacity.

The completion of the construction of the Aghband–Kelale road bridge was noted with satisfaction, and issues related to the commissioning of border infrastructure were discussed.

Measures being taken in connection with the completion of work on the cargo terminal in Astara and the expansion of the terminal's cargo transshipment capabilities were also reviewed.

An exchange of views took place regarding prospective infrastructure projects between the two countries.

At the meeting, an agreement was reached to continue activities aimed at developing mutually beneficial cooperation between Azerbaijan and Iran, consistently implementing the agreements reached at the 17th session of the State Commission, and accelerating the implementation of joint projects.
