Ministry of Emergency Situations warned the population about heavy rains and mudflow danger
According to the National Hydrometeorological Service, intense precipitation, thunderstorms, and periodic wind intensification are expected in certain regions of Azerbaijan in the coming days. Short-term mudflows are possible on some mountain rivers.
In this regard, the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) once again reminded citizens about safety rules.
The ministry noted that to protect against possible mudflows and floods caused by heavy precipitation, people should stay away from dangerous areas and immediately move to the nearest elevated ground if a threat arises.
To reduce risks during thunderstorms, the MES recommends unplugging electrical appliances from the mains, avoiding the use of phones — both mobile and landline — and staying away from power lines, lightning rods, antennas, and drainpipes.
In open areas, one should not take shelter under tall trees — it is safer to choose a lower spot. If a thunderstorm catches you in a car, you should stop, close the windows, and wait until it passes.
During strong winds, it is recommended to stay away from temporary and lightweight structures, buildings with external elements, billboards, and to avoid standing under trees, power lines, and electric poles.
The MES also reminded that strong winds can complicate firefighting efforts, so fire safety rules must be observed with particular strictness during such weather.
Additionally, given the summer season and the large number of beachgoers, the ministry emphasized that swimming in the sea during strong winds poses a threat to life. Owners of small vessels were also reminded that going out to sea under such weather conditions is prohibited.
