Prices for hybrid and electric cars in Azerbaijan have already increased by about 8-10 percent against the background of the upcoming cancellation of customs and tax benefits from 2026.

The chairman of the Azerbaijan Society of Appraisers, Vugar Oruj, stated this to BAKU.WS in a comment to the media.

According to him, more than 100 thousand new cars are planned to be imported into the country next year. He noted that from 2026, a value-added tax of 18 percent will be applied to hybrid and electric vehicles, which will lead to an initial price increase for new cars by approximately 20 percent.

The expert also pointed out that there is currently a certain stagnation in the used car market. However, in the event of a sharp increase in prices for new cars, the majority of the population, in his opinion, will focus specifically on the secondary market due to its relative affordability.

At the same time, Vugar Oruj emphasized that car prices are also influenced by other factors - including rising metal prices and economic sanctions applied by large states against each other. "Taking these circumstances into account, he noted, car prices in Azerbaijan will gradually be brought into line with the price level in the countries of the region. As an example, he cited Turkey, where cars are sold at significantly higher prices due to the high tax burden," the expert summarized.
