Approximately 557 million tons of oil have been transported through the Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan pipeline
To date, approximately 557 million tons of Azerbaijani oil have been transported via the main export oil pipeline Baku–Tbilisi–Ceyhan (BTC).
This was reported by the Ministry of Energy of Azerbaijan.
It is noted that exactly 20 years ago - on June 4, 2006 - the first tanker carrying export oil delivered via the BTC pipeline set off on its journey.
The pipeline transports oil from the "Azeri–Chirag–Gunashli" (ACG) fields, located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, as well as condensate from the "Shah Deniz" field.
The BTC oil pipeline originates at the Sangachal terminal and passes through the territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey to the Ceyhan marine terminal on the Turkish coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
The filling of the pipeline with oil began on May 10, 2005, and the first oil reached the Ceyhan terminal on May 28, 2006.
