On May 21, the Heydar Aliyev Center hosted the opening of a solo exhibition by Peruvian artist Ronald Companoca.

As reported by BAKU.WS, the opening ceremony was attended by Leyla Aliyeva and Alyona Aliyeva, Minister of Culture Adil Karimli, prominent figures in the arts, and other guests.

A number of the author's works displayed at the exhibition titled "The Theater of Dreams" were presented to the public for the first time.

In an interview with journalists before the opening ceremony, Ronald Companoca noted that this event holds tremendous significance for him, and holding an exhibition in one of Europe's important cultural centers carries a special meaning. The artist emphasized that the main distinguishing feature of this project is that it is not limited to a traditional presentation format but brings together various cultural approaches and creative perspectives.

He said that some of the works presented at the exhibition were inspired by Azerbaijani culture. Additionally, some works incorporate carpet elements, while others reflect Azerbaijani motifs and the name of our country. Ronald Companoca added that his work contains elements of both fantasy and magical surrealism. Nevertheless, he himself evaluates his works more as a synthesis of realistic and mystical styles.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Director of the Heydar Aliyev Center Anar Alakbarov noted that negotiations with the artist about holding an exhibition in Azerbaijan had been ongoing for several years, and this project was finally realized. He thanked the artist for his active creative work during this period and for his contribution to organizing the exhibition.

Anar Alakbarov also expressed gratitude to First Vice-President of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva for her support in implementing such projects.

Speaking at the event, Ronald Companoca emphasized that over the past year he had worked intensively on the large-format works presented at the exhibition. According to the artist, these works are the result of particularly keen attention to detail, a desire to make the invisible visible, and an artistic embodiment of his inner world.

It was noted that the leitmotif of the works presented in the exhibition are the themes of time, travel, and dreams. A special place in the exhibition is occupied by clocks preserving memories, ships creating clouds, caravans moving in the moonlight, and images striving toward a common goal.

As part of the event, an artistic program was also presented featuring various characters personifying the images from Companoca's works.

The guests then toured the "The Theater of Dreams" exhibition.

The main characters of the exhibition, which immerses visitors in a world of fantasy, are clowns, musicians, magicians, travelers, and fantastical creatures. These images take the viewer on an extraordinary journey through the artist's inner world.

Ronald Companoca's works are created based on the philosophy of magical surrealism and introduce visitors to an astonishing universe where reality and fiction merge in a delicate balance. In this artistic approach, one can trace references to the work of such world-renowned masters as Hieronymus Bosch, Salvador Dalí, and René Magritte.

The works of Ronald Companoca, who communicates with his audience in a distinctive artistic language, have to date been exhibited in the USA, various countries of Europe, and Central America.

The exhibition will run until March 1, 2027.
