White House: Trump intends to acquire Greenland by any means
President Donald Trump remains committed to the idea that Greenland is necessary for the United States to advance its national security interests in the region.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to kommersant.ru, White House spokesperson Caroline Leavitt stated this on Monday during a briefing. According to her, the American leader is ready to achieve this "by any means."
"However, the president still maintains his view on Greenland's strategic objectives in the Arctic," said Leavitt. "And he remains committed to the idea of acquiring Greenland by any means available to us to advance his national security interests in the region."
In early May, The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources, reported that US intelligence agencies are intensifying information gathering about Greenland. It was noted that intelligence services were instructed to "learn more about Greenland's independence movement and attitudes toward US extraction of natural resources on the island." After the publication of the material, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard stated that the WSJ "should be ashamed" for journalists undermining the president's authority by disclosing classified information.
