Central regions of Myanmar were shaken by two powerful earthquakes of magnitude 7.7 and 6.4 on March 28, which led to significant destruction and numerous casualties. The epicenter of the tremors was approximately 16 kilometers northwest of the Sagaing administrative district, located north of the country's capital Naypyidaw. The earthquake focus was at a depth of 10 km.
Underground tremors were also felt in neighboring countries, including Thailand.
Myanmar's Prime Minister Min Aung Hlaing declared a week of national mourning in connection with the numerous earthquake victims.
