During the event, Leo XIV called cinema a noble and mass art form accessible to everyone. He noted that films can both entertain and educate, as well as "surprise." At the same time, he urged filmmakers not to turn away from what he called the "wounds of the world."
According to him, violence, poverty, exile, loneliness, addiction, and forgotten wars are topics that need to be acknowledged and are important to talk about. True cinema does not use pain for effect, but recognizes and explores it. This is what all great directors have done, Leo XIV emphasized.
