Nicolas Sarkozy arrived at La Santé prison

Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy has arrived at La Santé prison, located in the 14th district of Paris.

According to the BFMTV channel, he became the first head of state in France's post-war history to be imprisoned in a penitentiary facility.

Now N. Sarkozy will have to go through administrative formalities required for all prisoners before being transferred to a cell.

Recall that the former head of state was found guilty of "complicity in a criminal group" on September 25 in the case of Libyan financing of the election campaign, but acquitted on charges of concealing embezzlement of public funds and passive corruption. The court did not establish the fact of illegal financing of the 2007 election campaign, but sentenced N. Sarkozy to five years in prison.

In an interview with Le Figaro newspaper, he said that he would take two books with him: the two-volume "The Count of Monte Cristo" by Alexandre Dumas-père and "Jesus. The Life of Christ" by Jean-Christian Petitfils.
