Man hid his deceased mother's body in an apartment in Japan for ten years

In the Japanese city of Kobe, police detained 60-year-old Takehisa Miyawaki, who kept his deceased mother's body in his apartment for ten years. The man explained his actions by fear of contact with people. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

Noticing strange behavior of the man on the street, [someone] asked him to provide information about himself and his mother. Miyawaki refused, which raised suspicions. Police officers went to the address registered to his mother and discovered an apartment filled with garbage. The remains of an elderly woman were found in the toilet.

DNA testing showed that it was the man's 95-year-old mother. Miyawaki admitted that he knew about her death from the very beginning, but his fear of communicating with people prevented him from reporting what had happened.
