Doctors allowed a child with a rare disease to go outside only after sunset

In Spain, doctors diagnosed a 12-year-old boy with a rare and shocking condition that completely turned his life upside down. The child is only allowed to leave home after sunset due to a dangerous genetic disease. This unusual case was reported by El Periodico.

Doctors diagnosed the young Spaniard with xeroderma pigmentosum – a rare genetic disease in which the skin has extreme sensitivity to ultraviolet radiation. This condition multiplies the risk of developing skin cancer even with minimal exposure to sunlight. Unfortunately, modern medicine has not yet developed effective treatments for this disease, so the only safe time for the boy to go outside is after dark.

The strict ban on daytime outdoor activities is only broken for school attendance. However, even in this case, the child must observe unprecedented precautions. Each trip to school turns into a real preparatory operation: the boy applies special sunscreen, wears long-sleeved clothing, gloves, pants, protective glasses, and a hat with a shield. Additionally, he constantly carries a device to measure ultraviolet radiation levels. The child's mother notes with sadness that such restrictions have seriously undermined her son's social life, depriving him of many joys of a normal childhood.
