Coronavirus "Stratus" - Should We Expect a New Pandemic?
The new coronavirus strain "stratus" will not lead to a pandemic, despite its high contagiousness. This was reported to TASS by epidemiologist Gennady Onishchenko.
According to him, "stratus" is the result of a merger of two COVID-19 substrains and is characterized by increased contagiousness, that is, the ability to infect people more quickly. "I can say with confidence that 'stratus' will not cause a pandemic. However, an increase in the number of cases will be observed, as happens with the flu," the specialist noted.
Onishchenko also recalled that in the 21st century, the coronavirus has already affected the human population three times: first in the form of the SARS strain, then MERS, and later COVID-19.
