In the Russian city of Voronezh, Yusif Khalilov, the leader of the Azerbaijani diaspora and owner of the city's largest market, has been arrested on suspicion of bribery, according to Russian media.

According to the source, law enforcement officials believe that in March of this year, Khalilov transferred 330,000 rubles (about 7,000 manats) to a doctor so that his son could avoid military service. Part of the amount was transferred through an intermediary, and 100,000 rubles (about 2,100 manats) were transferred to a bank card.

It is noted that on July 1, a search was conducted at Khalilov's house, during which evidence was found, including in the seized phone. At the moment, Khalilov refuses to testify and does not admit his guilt.

A criminal case has been opened against the diaspora leader. He faces 7 to 12 years in prison for bribery, and deportation is also possible.

The court ordered the businessman to be detained in a pre-trial detention center at least until October 14.
