Apple is preparing to abandon traditional mechanical buttons, replacing them with solid-state control elements - not only in future iPhone models but also in other company devices.

As reported by BAKU.WS, this is according to Setsuna Digital.

According to the source, by the release of iPhone 20 in 2027, Apple plans to start mass production of solid-state buttons for power, volume control, function keys, and camera control. The new technology will be based on pressure sensors and a local vibration system that creates the illusion of a mechanical click without using moving parts.

The transition to the new system will be gradual. Already in iPhone 18, expected to be released in 2026, the company may simplify the camera shutter button, replacing it with a capacitive sensor that supports force touch detection. In the future, Apple intends to implement piezoelectric ceramic elements capable of providing more realistic tactile feedback.

Within the company, the project has the code name Bongo. Its goal is to improve reliability, reduce the number of accidental presses, and increase device lifespan due to the absence of mechanical wear. In addition, the new technology will open up additional control capabilities - from force presses to swipes across the button surface.

According to analysts' forecasts, solid-state buttons will gradually appear in other Apple devices, including future iPad and Apple Watch models.
