Apple has abandoned the release of iPhone 18 in 2026

For the first time in more than a decade, Apple will radically change its annual smartphone release cycle. In 2026, there will be no basic iPhone 18 model introduced. Instead, only flagship devices are expected to be announced in the fall: iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and a foldable iPhone, while the standard iPhone 18 and other affordable models will only be released in spring 2027.

This means that the current iPhone 17 will remain the relevant basic offering in the market for more than 18 months. The shift is connected with the expansion of the product line: by the end of 2026, at least eight different iPhone models may be on sale simultaneously, including the iPhone 16e, iPhone Air, and older generations. Separating releases will allow Apple to differentiate products, extend the lifecycle of each model without internal competition, and distribute sales more evenly throughout the financial year.

The new approach has logistical advantages. The stretched launch schedule will help avoid production bottlenecks, improve management of component supplies for advanced technologies, and smooth out revenue between quarters.

Thus, Apple's traditional September event in 2026 will be exclusively dedicated to the premium segment, marking a new era in the company's strategy.
