Tofik Bahramov's Golden Whistle and Gurban Gurbanov's Lesson to the English Club
History is sometimes written by the sound of a referee's whistle.
59 years ago, the action of Azerbaijani referee Tofik Bahramov shocked the entire football world. It was thanks to his decision that the England national team became world champions for the first and so far only time in history.
After the final match, the Queen of Great Britain presented our compatriot with a golden whistle - an award that was actually intended only for the main referee.
On November 5 at the stadium bearing Tofik Bahramov's name, "Qarabag" and "Chelsea" ended their 90-minute confrontation in a draw. 2:2 is not just a score. It's a moment when the silence that had lasted for many years was broken.
"Qarabag" did not lose to an English club for the first time in its history. Moreover, it was close to victory. The Azerbaijani club is no longer on the periphery of European football - it is making its presence known on the champions' field.
