The first Azerbaijani and the first citizen of Azerbaijan to score in the Champions League
Karabakh defender Bahlul Mustafazade has made history as the first citizen of Azerbaijan to score a goal in the Champions League. In the overall standings, he became the second ethnic Azerbaijani to score in this prestigious tournament.
According to BAKU.WS, the first Azerbaijani to score in the tournament was Ramiz Mamedov, who played for "Spartak".
This significant event took place in 1995, when Mamedov, playing for Moscow's "Spartak," managed to score against the English champion "Blackburn Rovers".
Ramiz Mamedov was born in Moscow, but always identified himself as Azerbaijani. In his Soviet passport, he also indicated his nationality as Azerbaijani. His mother is Russian, and his father is an Azerbaijani from Georgia (from the village of Karabulakh, located approximately 100 km from Tbilisi, where Azerbaijanis live compactly). Ramiz Mamedov spent every summer in the rural environment of Azerbaijan, which is why he speaks his native language fluently.
The wing-back played in the Champions League with three clubs: Russian "Spartak," Ukrainian "Dynamo," and Austrian "Sturm." He has 33 matches and 2 goals to his credit in this tournament.
It should be noted that Bahlul Mustafazade has big goals ahead of him. Let's hope that B. Mustafazade will have the opportunity to achieve even greater success in this tournament.
