The Azerbaijan Grand Prix Formula 1 starts in Baku

Today, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix of Formula 1 starts in Baku, which is being held in the Azerbaijani capital for the ninth time.
As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Report, on the first day of racing, Friday, two free practice sessions will be held.
In addition, the program includes test drives and qualification within Formula 2.
The Baku track with a length of 306.049 km includes 20 turns, the race consists of 51 laps. For the first time, a Formula 1 car race was held in Baku in 2016 under the name European Grand Prix, and starting from 2017 - Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
In different years, the winners of the Baku stage were Nico Rosberg (Germany), Daniel Ricciardo (Australia), Lewis Hamilton (Great Britain), Valtteri Bottas (Finland), Sergio Perez (Mexico) and Max Verstappen (Netherlands). In 2023, Perez won here for the second time, and in 2024, Oscar Piastri from McLaren became the winner. In 2020, the race in Baku did not take place due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
For the last four years, Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc has won the qualification.
On the eve of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri (McLaren) leads the drivers' standings with 324 points. His teammate Lando Norris is second (293), and Max Verstappen from Red Bull (230) completes the top three. In the Constructors' Cup, McLaren confidently leads with 617 points, Ferrari is in second place (280), and Mercedes is in third (260).
