"Neftchi" parts ways with head coach

FC "Neftchi" terminated cooperation with head coach Samir Abasov.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to the Baku club, the decision was made following today's meeting between the management and the specialist, where the team's performance in the current season was discussed.

It is noted that since signing the contract in October last year, the management provided comprehensive support to S.Abasov, giving him authority in transfer policy and squad formation. All 14 transfers made during the off-season and after the start of the season were carried out at his initiative and with his approval, including decisions regarding players who left the team.

When concluding the contract, the head coach was tasked with demonstrating creative and attacking football, as well as achieving high results in all tournaments in which the team participates. Nevertheless, over the past 12 rounds, neither the dynamics of the team's development nor its place in the standings can be considered satisfactory. Although the specialist promised that during the season the team would progress from match to match and reach peak form in November, a decline in the quality of play was observed in recent meetings. Only three victories in 12 games are assessed as an unsatisfactory result, and the defeat in the match against "Imishli" became the culmination of the decline.

Considering S.Abasov's merits in "Neftchi" as a player and coach, as well as his diligent work in the current season, the club suggested he resign for reasons of professional ethics.

In turn, the coach disagreed with the arguments presented, stating that the current results are not so bad, and the failures are not directly related to his coaching activities, but to random factors. He expressed confidence that by the end of the season, the team would be among the top three. In addition, S.Abasov refused to leave voluntarily, emphasizing that in case of unilateral termination of the contract by the club, he intends to demand compensation in full.

Given the above, FC "Neftchi" decided to dismiss the specialist. The club thanked him for his high dedication and loyalty to work ethics during his tenure, wishing him success in his future career.

The search for a new head coach is currently ongoing. Sanan Gurbanov has been entrusted with preparing the team for the upcoming match against "Turan Tovuz" club on November 28.
