Iran has decided to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA

Iran's national team will participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States. The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has provided guarantees to the Iranian side that all athletes' rights will be respected.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to TASS, this was announced by the spokesperson of the Islamic Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Esmail Baghaei.

"The decision on the participation of Iran's national football team in the World Cup was made based on assessments by the Ministry of Sports and Youth and the Football Federation. Two days ago, a good meeting took place in Turkey between representatives of the Football Federation and high-ranking FIFA officials, and we were guaranteed that FIFA will make every effort to ensure that the tournament hosts comply with FIFA regulations," he said during a press conference.

On May 17, FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström stated that a productive meeting between representatives of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Football Federation of Iran took place in Turkey, following which FIFA expects the Iranian national team to participate in the upcoming World Cup.
