Defended the honor of the flag and won bronze: the story of rising karate star Zaki Jafarzade
Young and talented Azerbaijani karateka Zaki Jafarzade is one of those athletes known not only for his successes in sports arenas but also for his demonstrated patriotic spirit.
As reported by BAKU.WS, in 2023 at an international tournament in Batumi (Georgia), Zaki Jafarzade immediately and decisively responded to a display of disrespect by Armenian athletes toward the flag of Azerbaijan — they attempted to cover the Azerbaijani flag with the Armenian flag. The young karateka boldly put a stop to this attempt.
This act generated widespread resonance in the media and social networks and was met with enormous approval.
Zaki worthily represents Azerbaijan in international-level competitions. At the World Championship in Poland, he won a bronze medal in the 18–20 age group in the over 80 kg weight category, inscribing his name among the country's significant sports achievements.
In his interviews, Zaki emphasizes that he prepares for every competition with full physical and psychological dedication, and that defending the flag and honor of his country stands above any sports results for him.
Zaki has distinguished himself not only in traditional karate but also in jiu-jitsu and other contact sports. Competing as part of the Baku Karate-do Academy in international tournaments, including youth sports jiu-jitsu competitions, he has achieved high results and medals. This demonstrates his physical versatility and well-roundedness as an athlete.
Zaki Jafarzade is one of those young athletes whose future can be viewed with confidence and hope, both thanks to his achievements in sports arenas and his personal qualities beyond them.
Good luck to you, Zaki!
