Azerbaijani wrestler Aykhan Javadov has advanced to the final of the World Championship

Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestler Aykhan Javadov has advanced to the final of the U-20 World Championship in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia.

As Report informs, on the third day of the tournament, finalists were determined in the 60 kg and 82 kg weight categories in Greco-Roman wrestling, and in the 50 kg, 53 kg, and 72 kg weight categories in women's wrestling.

A. Javadov's (60 kg) start proved successful. In the round of 16, he gave no chances to France's Magomed Varayev – 9:0. In the quarterfinal, the Azerbaijani wrestler defeated Brazil's Pedro Henrique de Souza Rodrigues (6:2). One step away from the final, A. Javadov won by a minimal margin (4:3) against Iran's Amirali Heydari and earned a spot in the U-20 World Championship final for the second consecutive year, where he will face Uzbekistan's Dostonbek Oripov tomorrow.

It should be noted that A. Javadov became U-20 World Champion in 2025.

Another national team member, Elmin Aliyev (82 kg), finished his first two bouts with early victories. One step away from the final, he lost to Belarus' Kirill Valevsky with a score of 7:4. Tomorrow, E. Aliyev will compete for the bronze medal, and his opponent will be the winner of the matchups between Mohammed Shaban (Egypt), Ismail Barakat (Turkey), and Severi Maenpää (Finland).

In women's wrestling, Esra Mammadli (53 kg) lost at the classification stage to Kazakhstan's Dinara Dauylkyzy and finished the tournament without a medal.

Zahra Karimzade (72 kg) defeated Turkey's Ilayda Chini in the quarterfinal, but on the way to the final she lost to India's Tanu Sharma – 11:0. However, she still has a chance for bronze; to achieve this, she needs to defeat the winner of the pair Liliana Kazmina (Russia) – Petra Müller (Hungary).
