Spring viruses: TƏBİB warns about the dangers of self-medication

In spring, the increase in cases of flu and acute respiratory viral infections (ARVI) is quite common. However, attempts to treat yourself without a doctor's prescription can lead to serious complications. This was stated by TƏBİB consultant on infectious diseases and infection control Chinara Hajiyeva, Report informs.

According to her, many patients' intoxication symptoms - such as headache, weakness, muscle pain, sore throat, and cough - go away on their own, and a person quickly recovers even without specific treatment.

Hajiyeva also noted that cases of rotavirus infection in children under 5 years of age have become more frequent in spring. The disease manifests itself with vomiting, high fever, and diarrhea. With a mild course, symptomatic treatment is sufficient, but with prolonged fever, shortness of breath, and severe weakness, it is necessary to see a doctor.

In addition, the number of allergic diseases increases in spring and summer. Allergies often manifest as a runny nose, itching in the eyes and throat, sneezing, and skin redness. Due to the similarity of symptoms with ARVI, it is important to consult an allergist for accurate diagnosis.
