In Azerbaijan, the list of persons for whom the age limit for active military service is not established is expanding.

As reported by BAKU.WS with reference to Oxu.Az, this is reflected in the draft amendments proposed to the laws "On Approval of the Regulations on Military Service" and "On Military Duty and Military Service".

The draft proposes not to establish an age limit for the head and deputy of the relevant state bodies appointed to the position by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

According to the proposed amendment to the law "On Approval of the Regulations on Military Service," the age limit is not established for the Army General, as well as the head and deputy of the relevant executive authority and other state bodies where military service is provided for besides the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan (except for structural subdivisions of state bodies), appointed to the position by the relevant executive authority. Persons who have exceeded the age limit for active military service or in reserve will be discharged from active military service to the reserve or retired due to age after being relieved from their position.

According to the proposed amendment to the law "On Military Duty and Military Service," the age limit is not established for the Army General, as well as the head and deputy of the body (structure) determined by the relevant executive authority, and other state bodies where military service is provided for besides the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan (except for structural subdivisions of state bodies), appointed to the position by the body (structure) determined by the relevant executive authority.

The current legislation does not establish an age limit for military service for servicemen with the military rank of Army General. The draft provides for expanding the range of persons for whom the age limit for active military service is not established.

Note that the age limit for active military service is as follows:

- conscript active military service personnel: 31.5 years;

- extended active military service personnel, warrant officers and midshipmen, junior officers: 48 years;

- officers with the rank of major, lieutenant colonel and corresponding military ranks: 48 years;

- officers with the rank of colonel and equivalent military rank: 53 years;

- for senior officers - major general, rear admiral, lieutenant general, vice admiral: 58 years;

- colonel general, admiral: 63 years.

This issue was discussed today at a meeting of the parliamentary Committee on Defense, Security and Anti-Corruption.
