The court considered appeals against the verdict regarding Lachyn Akhmedagaev, accused of murdering his wife Sevinj Akhmedagaeva in the city of Khyrdalan.

As Teleqraf reports, the defendant, dissatisfied with the verdict, filed an appeal requesting a minimum sentence.

The legal successor of the victim S.Akhmedagaeva also filed a complaint, demanding life imprisonment for L.Akhmedagaev. Both complaints were considered in the Sumgayit Court of Appeal presided by Judge Muhammadali Rzaev. The court read out the decision to reject the complaints of both parties.

Recall that by the verdict of the Sumgayit Court for Serious Crimes, L.Akhmedagaev was sentenced to 18 years of imprisonment to be served in a strict regime correctional facility.

According to the charges, Lachyn Akhmedagaev had been officially married to Sevinj since 2017. In the last two years, he suspected his wife of infidelity with other men.

On April 28, 2024, throughout the day, he quarreled with his wife several times in their home in Khyrdalan. Around 9:00 PM during another argument, Sevinj responded aggressively to her husband, which convinced him that his suspicions of infidelity were justified. Lachyn took a knife from the kitchen, approached Sevinj who was standing in the living room, and slit her throat. The woman died at the scene from 32 stab wounds. The murder occurred in front of their three-year-old daughter.

The investigative authority charged Lachyn Akhmedagaev under Article 120.2.4 (deliberate murder committed with particular cruelty or in a generally dangerous manner) of the Criminal Code.
