Azerbaijan purchases modern Chinese locomotives for 26 million dollars

CJSC "Azerbaijan Railways" (ADY), operating as part of the Azerbaijan Transport and Communication Holding (AZCON), will purchase seven new locomotives and spare parts from the Chinese company CRRC Ziyang Co., Ltd.

As reported by BAKU.WS, all technical and commercial issues related to the acquisition of locomotives and spare parts have already been agreed upon. The total value of the agreement is 26 million US dollars.

The modern AC50 type mainline diesel locomotive, equipped with advanced technologies, innovative traction systems, and featuring high technical specifications, is distinguished by its high traction power, larger fuel tank capacity, and reliability.

The AC50 model complies with the IIIA level environmental standards established by the International Union of Railways (UIC). This allows the locomotive to be used in areas with special emission requirements.

The locomotives are planned to be operated within the international transport corridor "North-South" and in other directions to service the growing volume of freight transportation.

At the next stage, it is planned to purchase an additional 14 mainline locomotives.

It should be noted that due to the steady growth of transit freight transportation along international corridors passing through Azerbaijan's territory, ADY places serious importance on updating and expanding its locomotive fleet to ensure safe transportation of goods.
