Losses of 2025: Azerbaijan lost outstanding figures of culture and politics

The year 2025 left a deep mark in the memory of Azerbaijani society, marked by heavy losses.

As reported by BAKU.WS, many famous personalities who made invaluable contributions to the development of culture, art, literature, politics, and science of the country passed away this year.

Each of them left a bright mark in their field of activity, creating an irreplaceable void in the spiritual and social life of the republic.

Here is a list of celebrities who left us in 2025:

Arif Babayev - outstanding khanende (mugham singer), People's Artist of the Azerbaijan SSR, former head of the Mugham Department at the National Conservatory. He died on August 1, 2025.

Jabir Imanov – well-known actor, participant of the KVN team "Guys from Baku," Honored Artist of Azerbaijan (2015). Passed away on September 29, 2025.

Chimnaz Sultanova – an actress beloved by many, known to TV viewers for her roles in the series "Voice of Conscience." She left us on January 15, 2025.

Abdolbari Gozal – prominent Azerbaijani entrepreneur, one of the founders of "Azersun Holding." He played a crucial role in the development of the country's economy and was known for his charitable activities. Abdolbari Gozal died on January 18, 2025.

Khangusein Kazimli – political figure, who was a deputy of the Milli Majlis for many years, passed away on July 24, 2025.

Azer Bakhshaliyev - famous actor who gained wide recognition thanks to the characters of Aksakkal and Azamat in the "Bozbash Pictures" project. Passed away on January 5, 2025.

Elchin Efendiyev – People's Writer, novelist, playwright, former Deputy Prime Minister (1993–2018). Efendiyev died on August 3, 2025. He was one of the outstanding representatives of Azerbaijani literature and public administration.

Vidadi Babanli – writer, translator, literary figure, awarded with the "Sharaf" order. His novel "When Conscience is Silent" and many other works have become classics of Azerbaijani prose. Babanli passed away on August 16, 2025.

Amina Yusifgizi – People's Artist, master of stage and dubbing. Her voice is familiar to Azerbaijani viewers from dozens of famous films and performances. Amina khanim died on October 9, 2025.

Oktay Shiraliyev – former Minister of Health of Azerbaijan, who held this position from 2005 to 2021. During his leadership, important reforms were carried out in the healthcare system. He passed away on October 3, 2025.

Alisamid Kur – intellectual who actively worked in the field of literature and culture, making a significant contribution to the preservation and popularization of written literary heritage. Died on October 13, 2025.
