Why did Pashinyan, who had asked Azerbaijan for time, change his position? - Jeyhun Bayramov revealed details
The first contact between President Ilham Aliyev and Nikol Pashinyan took place on September 28, 2018, in Dushanbe. An unplanned informal meeting occurred between the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia during the summit of CIS heads of state and government.
As reported by BAKU.WS, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov shared this information during the Təmas xətti ("Line of Contact") program on Public Television.
According to the Foreign Minister, at the first meeting, Pashinyan demonstrated a very constructive approach to the issue of liberating occupied Azerbaijani territories, however, citing his recent assumption of office, he stated that he needed time to take any steps toward resolving the problem. However, approximately 6 months later at a meeting in Vienna, the Armenian Prime Minister radically changed his position.
"Pashinyan openly stated that he could not and would not resolve this issue. He presented an interesting argument, saying that if he did so, he would be killed. He even asked Mr. President a rhetorical question: 'Do you want me to be killed?' Mr. President replied that he in no way wished for anyone's death, but this does not mean that the occupation of Azerbaijani territories should continue," J. Bayramov related.
